Breaking the Binary: Writing on Gender is an intensive 2-hour workshop offered virtually about the poetics of gender, including works by Justice Ameer, Raquel Salas Rivera, Sam Sax, and NE Ohio poet Benjamin Rhodes. A 30-minute Q&A with Rachel and Sergio will follow the workshop.
In this workshop, we’ll explore what gender means, how the binary shows up in our lives, and the ways we can translate our personal experiences into poetry. Gender is a social construct, meaning it shapes and is shaped by every part of our society.
Poets across generations have used their work to question, affirm, and reimagine gender as both identity and political reality. Now it’s your turn.
This workshop is open to everyone, no matter your experience level or how you identify.
Come curious.
