BIPOC Reader Meetup

  • Elizabeth's Bookshop & Writing Centre 647 East Market Street Akron, OH, 44304 United States (map)

Elizabeth’s Bookshop and Writing Centre hosts a monthly BIPOC Reader Meetup created specifically for readers who identify as Black, Indigenous, or People of Color. This gathering exists to offer a space centered on comfort, ease, and connection within the BIPOC community. We meet at The Well CDC from 12 to 2 p.m. on the second Saturday of each month.

From 12 to 1 p.m., bring a book and read. There is no discussion and nothing to prepare. This is protected time to read in a space intentionally set aside for BIPOC readers. For some, it is self-care. For others, it is uninterrupted time with a book. Either way, this hour is yours.

From 1 to 2 p.m., conversation begins to take shape. People share what they are reading, laugh, and grow familiar. Over time, this hour has nurtured connections and friendships that bring people back month after month.

Many readers arrive on their own, so if you will too, you’re not the only one. This is not a book club, a discussion group, or a networking event. There is no pressure to participate in any particular way.

This meetup is reserved for members of the BIPOC community. For readers looking for a mixed audience gathering, we also host an All Reader Meetup on the last Saturday of each month.

If you are new, we are glad you found us. If we are not gathered in the café when you arrive, you can find the group in the small community room in the back.

As part of the meetup, mention the group at the counter to receive 10 percent off any drink at 647 Coffee.
